Indications

• General agreement
  • Asymptomatic patients with greater than 70 % stenosis in the presence of a contralateral occlusion or high-grade stenosis
  • Symptomatic patients
    • Single focal (ipsilateral) TIA with greater than 70 % stenosis
    • Multiple focal (ipsilateral) TIA
      • Greater than 70 % stenosis
      • Greater than 50% stenosis with ulceration
      • Greater than 50% stenosis with symptoms while on aspirin
    • Prior stroke (ipsilateral -- mild)
      • Greater than 50% stenosis
      • Greater than 50% with large ulcer
    • Prior stroke (ipsilateral -- moderate)
      • Greater than 70% with contralateral occlusion
    • Stroke in evolution
      • Greater than 70% stenosis (ipsilateral) with or without clot
